AMFI standardised factsheet template

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~9 min.

The AMFI standardised factsheet template is a prescribed format that all SEBI-registered asset management companies (AMCs) in India must follow when publishing their monthly mutual fund factsheets. Introduced by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) through a series of circulars, the template ensures that investors and financial advisers can compare schemes across AMCs on a consistent set of data points, rather than navigating AMC-specific formats that vary in content, layout, and level of detail.

Prior to the introduction of the standardised template, individual AMCs published factsheets in widely varying formats: some were visually elaborate marketing documents that emphasised favourable metrics, while others were data-dense spreadsheet-style printouts with minimal contextual information. The standardisation effort aimed to level the informational playing field for retail investors who may review factsheets from multiple AMCs when selecting schemes.

Mandatory content elements

The AMFI-prescribed factsheet template specifies that every monthly factsheet must include:

Scheme identification and objectives

  • Full scheme name and category (as per SEBI’s 2017 scheme categorisation circular)
  • Type of scheme (open-ended / close-ended / interval)
  • Investment objective
  • Date of allotment / fund inception date
  • Benchmark index

Fund manager information

  • Name(s) of fund manager(s)
  • Date of managing the scheme
  • Total experience in fund management
  • Other schemes managed by the same fund manager

Performance disclosure

  • Returns for standard periods: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, and since inception, presented as both absolute return (for periods under 1 year) and CAGR (for periods of 1 year and above)
  • Corresponding benchmark returns for the same periods
  • Additional benchmark comparison (Nifty 50 TRI or equivalent broad market index)
  • Current NAV (as of factsheet date)
  • Past performance disclaimer in the format prescribed by SEBI

Portfolio disclosure

  • Complete portfolio holding listing showing security name, ISIN, percentage to net assets, and market value
  • Asset allocation breakdown (equity, debt, cash/money market, REITs/InvITs, foreign securities) as percentage of net assets
  • Sector-wise breakdown (for equity funds)
  • Credit rating profile (for debt funds)
  • Top 10 holdings highlighted separately

Risk and cost metrics

  • AMFI Risk-O-Meter graphic and label (mandatory, prominently placed)
  • Benchmark’s riskometer level
  • Total Expense Ratio (TER) for the regular plan
  • TER for the direct plan
  • Exit load structure
  • Minimum investment and SIP amounts

Portfolio statistics

  • Portfolio turnover ratio (for equity funds)
  • Macaulay duration and modified duration (for debt funds)
  • Average maturity (for debt funds)
  • Yield to maturity (for debt funds)
  • Standard deviation, Sharpe ratio, and beta (for equity funds, where applicable)
  • Number of holdings

The 2024 revision

The AMFI factsheet 2024 revision introduced additional requirements and layout changes to the standard template, described in detail in the linked article.

Display requirements

The AMFI template specifies not only content but also visual presentation rules:

  • The Risk-O-Meter must appear on the first page of each scheme’s factsheet section, in colour.
  • The statutory risk warning (“Mutual Fund investments are subject to market risks…”) must appear on the cover page.
  • Past performance disclaimers must be in a minimum font size that is legible without magnification in both print and digital formats.
  • The factsheet date (month and year) must be clearly stated.

AMCs may add supplementary content, commentary, and AMC branding, but they may not omit or abbreviate any mandatory element. AMFI conducts periodic spot-checks of factsheets for compliance.
