Canara Robeco Mutual Fund
Canara Robeco Mutual Fund is an Indian asset management company, formally incorporated as Canara Robeco Asset Management Company Limited, operating as a joint venture between Canara Bank (a major Indian public sector bank) and Robeco Groep N.V. of the Netherlands (a global asset management group known for quantitative and sustainable investing). As of March 2024, Canara Robeco AMC managed assets exceeding Rs 90,000 crore.
Canara Bank is the majority sponsor, consistent with its role as a large public sector institution with extensive retail distribution. Robeco Groep (owned by ORIX Corporation of Japan) brings international investment process and research capabilities.
History and corporate structure
Canara Bank established its mutual fund operations in 1987, making it one of the original public sector bank AMCs in India. The bank’s AMC was subsequently restructured as a joint venture, with Robeco acquiring a minority stake. The current joint venture structure (Canara Robeco) has been in place since the 2000s.
The fund house’s equity franchise has gained recognition over the past decade, with the Canara Robeco Equity Hybrid Fund and Canara Robeco Emerging Equities Fund (large and mid cap) establishing long track records.

Canara Bank (public sector bank, Government of India owned) is the majority sponsor. Robeco Groep N.V. holds the minority interest. The trustee entity is Canara Robeco Mutual Fund Trustee Company Private Limited.

Investment philosophy
Canara Robeco AMC’s equity investment is fundamental and bottom-up. Robeco’s global platform contributes quantitative screens and ESG integration frameworks that are applied to Indian portfolio construction. The fund house has been among the earlier Indian AMCs to adopt ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) considerations in the investment process.
Distribution and operations
Canara Bank’s extensive branch network (approximately 9,500 branches) is the primary distribution channel. The fund house also distributes through online platforms including Zerodha Coin.
