Zerodha G-Sec Console P&L

G-Sec P&L on Console

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~2 min.

Zerodha Console displays G-Sec P&L with the following components:

ComponentWhat it shows
Holdings value (current market price)Mark-to-market clean value
Buy averageWeighted average buy price (clean)
Unrealised P&L(Current price - Buy avg) x Quantity
Realised P&LFrom sold positions in current FY
Accrued interestInterest accrued but not yet paid
Coupon receivedInterest paid out during the period

Total return computation

Total return = Realised P&L + Unrealised P&L + Coupons received + Accrued interest

What can be confusing

  • Buy average vs settlement debit: Buy avg is clean price; settlement debit includes accrued interest (see Dirty vs clean price ).
  • Unrealised P&L doesn’t include accrued interest: Coupons are tracked separately.
  • Tax computation: Capital gain on clean prices; coupon as interest income.
