Step-by-step procedure

Five steps per the procedure infobox. The notes below cover the BSE F&O universe and current weekly schedule.

BSE F&O underlyings on Kite

UnderlyingContract types available
SensexWeekly + monthly options; monthly futures
BankexWeekly + monthly options; monthly futures
BSE 100 select stocksStock options for a small select list (subject to revision)

The bulk of BSE F&O activity is in Sensex and Bankex weekly options.

BankexFriday (originally Monday)

The schedule has shifted multiple times; cross-check BSE F&O for current convention.

Contract identifier syntax (BSE F&O)

ContractFormat example
Sensex weekly optionSENSEX 22MAY24 73000 CE
Sensex monthly optionSENSEX 23MAY 73000 CE
Sensex monthly futureSENSEX 23MAY FUT
Bankex weekly optionBANKEX 22MAY24 53000 CE

The search syntax mirrors NSE F&O; the difference is the exchange tag (BFO instead of NFO).

NSE vs BSE: which to trade

For index derivatives, the choice of NSE vs BSE depends on:

  • Liquidity: NSE Nifty / BankNifty options are deeper than BSE Sensex / Bankex options at most strikes, but the gap has narrowed at ATM strikes.
  • Lot size: Differs between exchanges; check current specs.
  • Expiry day: NSE Nifty expires Thursday; BSE Sensex expires Friday. Spread positions across both day-of-week buckets if needed.

STT and exchange charges

Securities Transaction Tax and exchange-transaction charges differ marginally between NSE and BSE F&O. The Zerodha brokerage calculator gives the exact charges for each contract.
