How-to F&O Marketwatch Kite

How to add F&O contracts to the Kite marketwatch

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~4 min.

F&O contracts on the Kite marketwatch use the NSE NFO segment tag. The contract universe spans index derivatives (Nifty, BankNifty, FinNifty, MidcapNifty), stock derivatives, and the much smaller NSE currency derivative book (CDS tag).

Step-by-step procedure

Five steps per the procedure infobox. The notes below cover the contract identifier convention and expiry calendars.

Contract identifier syntax

Contract typeFormatExample
Index futuresUnderlying + expiry monthNIFTY 23MAY FUT
Index optionUnderlying + expiry + strike + CE/PENIFTY 23MAY 22000 CE
Weekly index option (Nifty)Underlying + weekly expiry date + strike + CE/PENIFTY 22MAY24 22000 CE
Stock futureUnderlying + expiry monthRELIANCE 23MAY FUT
Stock optionUnderlying + expiry + strike + CE/PERELIANCE 23MAY 2900 CE

NSE switched to weekly index options for Nifty (Thursday expiry), BankNifty (originally Wednesday, then moved), FinNifty (Tuesday), and MidcapNifty (Monday). Some of these schedules have shifted; check the NSE F&O calendar for the current convention.

Filtering the dropdown

Typing NIFTY returns the NIFTY 50 index (EQ tag) at the top, followed by dozens of NFO rows for current and next-month contracts. Type NIFTY 23MAY to narrow down to the May 2023 expiry. Type NIFTY 23MAY 22000 to pinpoint a specific strike (both CE and PE will appear).

For stock derivatives, the F&O contract is in the dropdown alongside the EQ row.

Adding option chains in bulk

There is no one-click option-chain add. Each strike must be added individually. For monitoring an option chain, use the option chain view on Kite (Quotes > Option chain), which renders the full chain without needing watchlist slots.
