How to cancel an eMandate on Zerodha
An eMandate on Zerodha, whether a UPI AutoPay mandate or a NACH net-banking mandate, can be cancelled at any time by the account holder. Cancellation stops all future debits under the mandate and is effective from the next scheduled debit after the cancellation is processed by NPCI. This guide walks through the cancellation procedure via Zerodha Console, the alternative cancellation path through your UPI application or bank, the effect on linked SIPs, and the steps to take before and after cancellation.

Prerequisites
Before following this guide, confirm that:
- You know which mandate you wish to cancel. Log in to Zerodha Console and check the Account > eMandates section for a list of your active mandates along with their reference numbers, linked bank accounts, and associated purposes.
- If the mandate is linked to a SIP, you have decided whether to pause the SIP (temporarily stop debits while preserving the SIP registration) or stop it entirely (which also cancels the SIP). This decision depends on whether you intend to resume the SIP under a new mandate later.
- You are cancelling at least 3 business days before the next scheduled debit. Cancellations submitted within the 3-day window before a scheduled debit may not take effect in time, and the debit may still be processed. If the timing is tight, also instruct your bank to dishonour any incoming NACH or UPI AutoPay debit from Zerodha for that date.
- You do not have any pending obligations, such as a margin call or outstanding instalment, that the mandate is servicing. Cancelling a mandate used for margin auto-top-up while a margin shortfall exists can lead to a margin call penalty.
Step-by-step procedure
Step 1: Log in to Zerodha Console
Open console.zerodha.com in a browser. Enter your Zerodha client ID and password. Complete two-factor authentication via TOTP or SMS OTP. The Console is the central account-management interface; mandate management is not available on Kite.
Step 2: Navigate to Account > eMandates
After logging in, click Account in the top navigation menu. From the dropdown, select eMandates. The eMandates page displays all registered mandates associated with your account, with details including:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Mandate reference | Unique NPCI or NACH mandate ID |
| Bank | Bank account linked to the mandate |
| Amount ceiling | Maximum debit per occurrence |
| Frequency | Monthly, weekly, or daily |
| Status | Active, Pending, Cancelled, or Expired |
| Purpose | SIP name, fund addition, or other label |
Step 3: Identify the mandate to cancel
Locate the mandate you wish to cancel. Use the mandate reference number, the bank account (last four digits), and the amount ceiling to identify it if you have multiple mandates. Confirm the status is Active; you cannot cancel a mandate that is already Cancelled or Expired.
Step 4: Pause or stop the linked SIP
If the mandate is for a mutual fund SIP on Coin. Before cancelling the mandate, navigate to coin.zerodha.com and:
- Click SIPs in the top menu.
- Find the SIP linked to the mandate.
- Click Pause SIP if you plan to resume it under a new mandate, or Stop SIP if you are ending the investment permanently.
Wait for confirmation that the SIP has been paused or stopped before proceeding to cancel the mandate.
If the mandate is for margin top-up or fund addition. Ensure there are no pending top-up instructions or open positions requiring this mandate.
Step 5: Click Cancel mandate
Return to the Console Account > eMandates page. Next to the mandate you identified, click Cancel or Revoke. This may appear as a text link or a menu option under an actions icon. A confirmation dialogue appears, showing the mandate reference, bank, and amount ceiling.
Step 6: Confirm the cancellation
Review the details in the confirmation dialogue. Click Confirm, Yes, cancel, or the equivalent. Zerodha submits a mandate cancellation request to NPCI (for NACH mandates) or to the UPI network (for UPI AutoPay mandates).
For NACH mandates, NPCI processes the cancellation and the status typically updates to Cancelled within the same business day or by the next business day.
For UPI AutoPay mandates, the cancellation propagates to the UPI network and your bank within a few hours. The status on Console updates accordingly.
Step 7: Verify cancellation
Refresh the eMandates page on Console. The mandate status should read Cancelled or Inactive. Additionally:
- For UPI AutoPay mandates. Open your UPI application and navigate to the mandates or AutoPay section (labelled UPI Mandates, AutoPay, or similar depending on the app). Confirm that the mandate for Zerodha no longer appears as active.
- For NACH mandates. Log in to your bank’s internet banking. Navigate to the NACH mandates section and confirm the mandate is no longer listed as active.
If the mandate remains Active after 2 business days, contact Zerodha support at support.zerodha.com with the mandate reference number.
Alternative cancellation path via your UPI application
For UPI AutoPay mandates, you can cancel the mandate directly through your UPI application without going through Zerodha Console:
| UPI app | Where to find mandates |
|---|---|
| Google Pay | Settings → AutoPay |
| PhonePe | UPI Autopay under the profile or payment menu |
| Paytm | UPI & Payments → UPI Mandates |
| BHIM | Mandate Management |
| Bank-own apps | UPI → Mandates or AutoPay |
In the mandates section, find the active mandate for Zerodha, tap it, and choose Cancel, Revoke, or Delete. Confirm the cancellation. The cancellation propagates to NPCI and is reflected on Zerodha Console within 1 business day.
What happens after cancellation
| Aspect | Effect |
|---|---|
| Scheduled debits | No further debits occur under this mandate |
| Linked SIP (if not separately stopped) | Next debit attempt fails; instalment is missed |
| Linked SIP (if separately stopped first) | No further SIP attempts; no missed-instalment record |
| Mandate re-registration | A fresh mandate can be registered at any time |
| Bank account | Unaffected; no impact on the linked bank account |
| Zerodha trading account | Unaffected; existing balance and positions are unchanged |
What can go wrong
Mandate shows as Active despite cancellation request. NPCI processing can take up to 1 business day. If the status has not changed after 2 business days, contact Zerodha support.
Debit processed after cancellation. If the next scheduled debit date was fewer than 3 business days from when you submitted the cancellation, the debit may have already been initiated by the fund house or Zerodha before the cancellation reached NPCI. In this case, the debit is valid. If you believe it is erroneous, raise a dispute with Zerodha support, providing the mandate reference number and the date of the cancellation request.
SIP instalment marked as missed. This occurs when the mandate is cancelled without first stopping the SIP. The SIP system attempts the debit, finds no active mandate, and marks the instalment as missed. To resume the SIP, you must first register a new mandate and then restart or unpause the SIP, linking it to the new mandate.
UPI app does not show the mandate. Some UPI applications do not display mandates from all participating institutions. If the mandate is not visible in your UPI app, cancel it via Zerodha Console instead.
