How-to MTF Order rejection

How to fix MTF buy order not allowed (open holding sell)

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~2 min.

When an MTF buy order is rejected with “open holding sell” message, you have a pending sell order on the same scrip that conflicts with the new MTF buy.

Resolution

Either:

  1. Cancel the pending sell order, then place MTF buy.
  2. Wait for the sell to execute, then place MTF buy.

Why the conflict

The broker’s RMS prevents simultaneous buy and sell on the same scrip:

  • Conflicting positions.
  • Margin / pledge complications.
  • Avoid unintended round-trips.
