How-to Positions Filter Kite

How to group and filter positions on Kite

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~3 min.

The Kite Positions tab supports grouping and filtering to make a long list manageable. For active intraday and F&O traders with dozens of positions, this is essential.

Step-by-step procedure

Five steps per the procedure infobox. The notes below describe the most useful grouping and filter combinations.

Grouping

Group byResult
SegmentEquity rows together; F&O rows together; CDS rows together; MCX rows together
Product (MIS / CNC / NRML)Group of MIS positions; group of NRML positions, etc.
UnderlyingAll options on Nifty together; all options on BankNifty together
Long / ShortLong positions grouped; short positions grouped

Grouping by underlying is the most useful for F&O option strategies: you can see all the legs of a Nifty spread or condor in one cluster.

Filtering

FilterWhat it shows
Open onlyPositions with non-zero quantity
Closed todayPositions opened and closed today (same-day round trip)
In profitPositions with positive P&L
In lossPositions with negative P&L
Today’s activityPositions opened today, including same-day closed
All timeNet view of all open positions

Combine filters: “Open + In loss + F&O” surfaces F&O legs that are currently losing money, ranked by largest loss when sorted by P&L.

Sorting

Click any column header to sort. Useful sorts:

  • Sort by P&L descending: top winners first.
  • Sort by P&L ascending: top losers first (good for stop-loss reviews).
  • Sort by Qty descending: largest positions first.

Use case: option strategy review

For an iron condor with four legs (long put, short put, short call, long call):

  1. Open Positions, Net view.
  2. Group by Underlying.
  3. Filter to F&O only.
  4. The four legs cluster under the same underlying group.

The cluster makes it easy to see net P&L for the strategy as a sum.

Use case: intraday review at session end

At 15:25, before auto-square-off:

  1. Open Positions, Day view.
  2. Filter to Open + MIS.
  3. Sort by P&L ascending.

The worst losing intraday positions are at the top. Decide which to close manually before auto-square triggers (forced exits may have worse fills).

Persistence

Group-by and filter selections may or may not persist across sessions depending on Kite build. Recent builds persist; older builds reset on login.
