How to read PPFAS AUM and net-flow data

This guide covers finding and interpreting PPFAS Mutual Fund AUM (Assets Under Management) and net-flow data. AUM is the most visible measure of fund scale; net flows (inflows minus outflows) capture investor sentiment and conviction. PPFAS’s AUM trajectory is distinctive within the Indian industry: PPFCF crossed Rs 1 lakh crore in late 2025, becoming the first active equity mutual fund in India to reach this milestone, against the AMC’s stated philosophy of not aggressively chasing AUM.

Step-by-step procedure

Step 1: Open the PPFAS monthly factsheet

The monthly factsheet (see how to read a PPFAS monthly factsheet) displays AUM per scheme:

  • PPFCF AUM (largest by far).
  • Liquid Fund AUM.
  • ELSS Tax Saver AUM.
  • Conservative Hybrid AUM.
  • Arbitrage Fund AUM.
  • DAAF AUM.
  • Large Cap AUM (newest, smallest as of mid-2026).

The factsheet also shows monthly trends if a comparative table is included.

Step 2: Visit AMFI for industry-context AUM

AMFI publishes monthly industry data at amfiindia.com:

  • Monthly bulletin: Cross-AMC AUM data.
  • Category data: Total AUM in each SEBI category (flexi-cap, large-cap, mid-cap, etc.).
  • AMC-wise data: Total industry AUM by AMC, with percentage market share.
  • Equity vs debt vs hybrid split: Total industry AUM decomposition.

PPFAS’s standing in the AMC-wise data: typically a mid-sized AMC by total AUM but with substantial concentration in equity (over 95 per cent of AUM is in equity-oriented schemes, primarily PPFCF).

Step 3: Compute AUM growth and net-flow decomposition

AUM change between two month-ends = NAV-appreciation effect + Net flow effect.

For PPFCF:

  • Month-end AUM (current) - Month-end AUM (prior).
  • NAV appreciation in the month: (Current NAV - Prior NAV) × Average outstanding units.
  • Net flow = AUM change - NAV appreciation effect.

PPFAS publishes scheme-level AUM directly; the decomposition reveals whether AUM growth is driven by:

  • Market appreciation (positive NAV change drives AUM growth without new inflows).
  • Investor inflows (positive net flows drive AUM growth even in flat markets).
  • Investor outflows (negative net flows can offset NAV appreciation in down markets).

Step 4: Compare PPFAS with peer flexi-cap AMCs

Peer flexi-cap schemes for comparison:

  • HDFC Flexi Cap Fund.
  • ICICI Prudential Flexi Cap Fund.
  • Kotak Flexi Cap Fund.
  • Axis Flexi Cap Fund.
  • Mirae Asset Flexi Cap Fund.
  • Aditya Birla Sun Life Flexi Cap Fund.

PPFCF’s AUM rank within the flexi-cap category and within the broader equity-MF universe is a useful contextualisation. As of late 2025, PPFCF became the largest flexi-cap fund in India by AUM.

Step 5: Track scheme-level versus AMC-level AUM

PPFAS AMC-total AUM = Sum of AUMs across all seven schemes.

PPFCF as a percentage of AMC-total AUM is currently over 80 per cent. The Liquid Fund, ELSS, Conservative Hybrid, Arbitrage, DAAF, and Large Cap collectively make up the remaining approximately 20 per cent. This concentration in a single flagship scheme is distinctive in the Indian industry; most large AMCs have a more diversified scheme portfolio.

Step 6: Verify against SEBI monthly disclosures

SEBI publishes a Mutual Fund Bulletin monthly at sebi.gov.in, including:

  • Total industry AUM.
  • AMC-wise AUM and market share.
  • Category-wise breakdowns.
  • Investor count statistics.

This is the regulator’s authoritative dataset; cross-reference for verification.

Step 7: Read PPFAS commentary on AUM in factsheets and Annual Letters

PPFAS frequently addresses AUM-related decisions in its commentary:

  • No-chase-for-AUM stance: Recurring theme; PPFAS has not pursued aggressive marketing for AUM growth.
  • AUM-cap considerations: No formal AUM cap has been imposed on PPFCF, despite the scheme’s growth.
  • Closure-to-subscription considerations: PPFCF has not closed to new subscriptions, in contrast to some peer schemes that have done so at lower AUM levels.

Annual Letters (see how to read the PPFAS Annual Letter) typically include AUM-trajectory commentary and the AMC’s rationale for managing scale.

Step 8: Note major milestones

Notable PPFAS AUM milestones (selective):

  • First Rs 100 crore AUM: Within months of PPFCF launch (May 2013).
  • First Rs 1,000 crore AUM: Approximately 2017-2018.
  • First Rs 10,000 crore AUM: Approximately 2020-2021.
  • Rs 50,000 crore AUM: Approximately mid-2023.
  • Rs 1 lakh crore AUM: Late 2025, the first active equity MF in India to cross this milestone.
  • Current AUM (mid-2026): Approximately Rs 1,60,000 crore for PPFCF; AMC-total approximately Rs 1,75,000+ crore.

These milestones are noted in PPFAS’s Annual Letters and in industry press coverage.
