How-to Marketwatch Settings Kite

How to save marketwatch settings on Kite

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~3 min.

Kite saves marketwatch settings server-side automatically. There is no explicit Save button; every change you make (add scrip, reorder, pin, add note) is committed within seconds. The configuration follows your Kite account across web, app, and devices.

Step-by-step procedure

Five steps per the procedure infobox. The notes below cover what is auto-saved, what is not, and the export limitations.

What is auto-saved

SettingSavedNotes
Scrips in each watchlistYesAcross all 5 tabs
Tab names and orderYesDrag order persists
Pin stateYesOne pin per watchlist
Notes on scripsYesScoped to scrip, not watchlist
Density toggle (compact / expanded)YesWeb; mobile may differ
Column visibility togglesYesWhere the toggle exists
Alert configurationsYesActive across all sessions

What is not saved

  • Browser layout choices like which panel pane is open (chart, depth, orders). These reset on next login.
  • Modal pop-up state like an open order ticket. Closing the browser closes the ticket.
  • Browser bookmarks and zoom level. These are browser-side, not Kite-side.

Cross-device sync

The watchlists are stored in Zerodha’s backend, so:

  • A scrip added on Kite web at 09:20 appears in the Kite app within a few seconds.
  • A note added on the app surfaces on Kite web on next page load.
  • Logging in on a friend’s laptop with your credentials gives you exactly the same watchlist (which is why you should never share credentials).

Manual backup paths

Kite does not currently offer a one-click watchlist export to CSV. Options for manual backup:

  • Screenshot the watchlist tabs.
  • Copy row text by selecting the scrip names (works on Kite web; the app does not always allow text selection).
  • Use the Kite API (Kite Connect, paid product) to programmatically export.
  • Console export for portfolio holdings (not the watchlist).

Import on a new account

Watchlists are tied to the specific Kite account. They do not transfer to a new account (e.g., a family member’s account, a new account after a number change). Manual re-creation is required.
