How-to Holdings Display Kite

How to toggle net change between percentage and absolute on Kite

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~2 min.

The Kite Holdings tab and Positions tab display Net change and Day’s change in both percentage and absolute (rupee) form by default. Some users prefer percentage-only or absolute-only; the toggle is a single-click on web and a menu setting on the app.

Step-by-step procedure

Five steps per the procedure infobox. The notes below cover both surfaces.

On Kite web

  1. Open Holdings (or Positions).
  2. The Net change and Day’s change columns show both formats by default.
  3. Click the column header (e.g., on “Net chg” header).
  4. The display toggles: percentage-first, absolute-first, or one-only.

The exact toggle behaviour depends on the Kite build. In the most recent build, clicking the header cycles through display modes.

On Kite app

  1. Open Portfolio > Holdings.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right.
  3. Look for “Column display” or “View preferences”.
  4. Choose percentage-only, absolute-only, or both.

Per-column vs all-columns

The toggle on Kite is usually per-column. The Net change column toggle and the Day’s change column toggle are independent. You can show Net change as percentage and Day’s change as absolute, or any other combination.

Use case

Use casePreferred format
Quick performance scanPercentage (relative comparison)
Tax estimationAbsolute (rupee amounts feed tax calculations)
Position sizingAbsolute (rupees matter for risk)
Comparing scripsPercentage (apples-to-apples)

Why both default

Showing both percentage and absolute by default helps users avoid mis-reading scale:

  • A 50% gain on a Rs 100 holding is Rs 50.
  • A 5% gain on a Rs 10 lakh holding is Rs 50,000.

Same percentage, very different absolute. The dual display catches misjudgments.
