How to update your address on Zerodha (KRA)

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~9 min. Level: Beginner.

Your registered address at Zerodha appears on contract notes, account statements, and the CDSL Consolidated Account Statement (CAS). It is also the address to which CDSL sends physical PIN mailers for Easiest target account activation. An outdated address causes delivery failures and may trigger compliance flags under SEBI’s periodic KYC re-verification requirements.

Address updates at Zerodha flow through the KYC Registration Agency (KRA) framework, established by the SEBI KRA Regulations, 2011. When Zerodha updates your address, the change is submitted to the relevant KRA (typically CAMS KRA or KFintech KRA), which then makes it available to all other SEBI-registered intermediaries (mutual funds, insurance companies, other brokers) that have linked your PAN to the same KRA record.

Route A: Online Aadhaar-based address update

Step 1: Update Aadhaar address first (if needed)

If your new address is not yet in UIDAI’s records, update Aadhaar first by visiting the UIDAI portal (uidai.gov.in) or an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The Aadhaar address update takes 5–10 business days at UIDAI. Only after the Aadhaar address reflects the new address should you proceed with the Zerodha online update.

Step 2: Log in to Zerodha Console

Open Console and log in. Navigate to Profile > Personal details > Address.

Step 3: Initiate Aadhaar-based update

Click Update via Aadhaar. Enter your Aadhaar number and consent to UIDAI data retrieval. An OTP is sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter the OTP.

UIDAI returns the address as it appears in the Aadhaar record. Review the address shown on screen; confirm if it is correct.

Step 4: Confirm and submit

Submit the update. Zerodha processes it and submits the address change to the KRA. You receive an email confirmation when the update is complete, typically within 1–2 business days.

Route B: Offline address proof submission

Step 1: Prepare the address proof

Select one document from the acceptable list above. Ensure the document shows:

  • Your full name (matching Zerodha records)
  • Your new address
  • The required date (for dated documents: not older than three months)

Sign the document (self-attest) and write the date.

Step 2: Download the modification form (if applicable)

Zerodha may require the address change to be submitted on an official “KYC Change Request” or “Account Modification” form. Check support.zerodha.com for the current form. Fill in:

  • Client ID
  • PAN
  • Current address (as on record)
  • New address
  • Signature

Step 3: Submit by email or courier

Email: Scan the signed form and address proof (minimum 300 DPI). Send to modifications@zerodha.com or raise a ticket at support.zerodha.com and attach the documents. Use the registered email address.

Courier: Post originals or notarised copies to Zerodha’s Bengaluru address for compliance-sensitive changes. Zerodha may accept self-attested scanned copies by email for straightforward address updates.

Step 4: Await confirmation

Zerodha processes the address change within 3–7 business days of receiving complete documents. A confirmation email is sent when the update is complete.

KRA propagation and downstream effects

Once Zerodha updates its records and the KRA record is modified:

  • CDSL: The registered address on the CDSL BO account is updated (within 5–7 business days). Physical PIN mailers for Easiest will be sent to the new address.
  • KRA: All intermediaries that have your PAN in the same KRA record will see the new address on the next KYC data pull. This is relevant if you apply for mutual funds, insurance products, or open an account with another broker.
  • CDSL CAS: Future CAS statements will be dispatched to the new address.

Periodic KYC re-verification obligation

SEBI’s KRA Regulations and subsequent circulars (including SEBI Circular SEBI/HO/MIRSD/MIRSD-PoD-1/P/CIR/2022/70 dated 25 May 2022) require intermediaries to periodically re-verify client KYC data. Zerodha may request address verification proactively if the address on record has not been updated for several years, or if the account matches a risk profile flagged for enhanced due diligence. An address update clears this flag.
