How to update your signature on Zerodha

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~7 min. Level: Beginner.

Your specimen signature is the signature on record with Zerodha and CDSL. It is used to verify physical instructions such as account closure forms, closure-cum-transfer requests, delivery instruction slips (DIS), and certain account modification forms. A signature that has changed over time (change in style, initials-based to full signature, or due to personal preference) must be updated to prevent rejection of physical instructions.

Unlike many other account modifications, signature updates at Zerodha do not have a self-service online route. They require a physical form submission by email (scanned) or courier. This guide explains the process.

Step 1: Download the signature update form

Visit support.zerodha.com and search for “signature change” or “account modification form”. Download the relevant form. If a specific signature update form is not available separately, the general KYC/account modification form includes a section for specimen signature update.

Alternatively, contact Zerodha support by raising a ticket and requesting the signature update form be sent to you by email.

Step 2: Fill the form

Fill in the following fields on the form:

  • Client ID: Your Zerodha BO ID / Client ID
  • Name: Full name as per account records
  • PAN: Your PAN number
  • Old signature: Sign in the box labelled “current/old signature” exactly as it appears on your existing Zerodha account KYC documents. This is used by Zerodha to verify that the requester is the account holder.
  • New signature: Sign in the box labelled “new specimen signature”. This is the signature that will replace the current one on record. Sign it consistently; the signature you write here will become the reference for future verification.

If the form requires the signature to be placed in a bordered box, ensure the signature fits entirely within the box. Signatures extending outside the box may be rejected during scanning and processing.

Step 3: Attach identity documents

Attach a self-attested copy of your PAN card (front side). Self-attest by signing across the copy and writing the date. Some modification requests may also require an Aadhaar copy; include it if Zerodha’s form instructions mention it.

Do not attach a copy of the old signature document; Zerodha verifies the old signature against its own records.

Step 4: Submit the form

By email (accepted for most modifications): Scan the completed form at 300 DPI or higher (ensure the signature boxes are clearly legible). Save as a PDF and email to modifications@zerodha.com. Alternatively, upload the document as an attachment when raising a support ticket at support.zerodha.com. Use the subject line:

Signature update request – [Your Client ID]

Send from the registered email address.

By courier (recommended for originals): Post the original form (not a photocopy) to:

Zerodha Broking Limited
#153/154, 4th Cross, Dollars Colony
J.P. Nagar 4th Phase
Bengaluru – 560 078

For important modifications, sending the original by registered post or speed post provides a dispatch record.

Zerodha acknowledges receipt of the modification request within two business days.

Step 5: Await update confirmation

Zerodha processes signature updates within 3–7 business days of receiving complete documents. A confirmation email is sent when the new signature has been updated in the system.

Once updated:

  • The new signature is the reference for all future physical instructions.
  • The CDSL BO account signature is also updated (this happens automatically when Zerodha’s DP team updates the CDSL record).
  • Support tickets and future correspondence from Zerodha will reflect the new signature record.

After the update: submitting physical forms

After the signature update is confirmed, any physical form you submit (account closure, CCT, off-market DIS, KYC change) must be signed using the new specimen signature. Using the old signature after the update has been processed will cause a new mismatch.

If you are submitting a critical form (such as an account closure or CCT form) very soon after the signature update, confirm with Zerodha support that the new signature is fully propagated before submitting the form. Allow at least one full business day after the signature update confirmation before submitting the next physical form.
