How to look up your Zerodha client ID
Your Zerodha client ID (also called User ID) is the 6-character alphanumeric identifier you use to log in to Kite and Console . It is assigned at account opening; format example: “AB1234” (2 letters + 4 digits, though some legacy IDs differ).

Step-by-step procedure
Six recovery options per the procedure infobox. The notes below cover each.
Option 1: welcome email
When you opened your Zerodha account, you received a welcome email containing your client ID. Search your inbox:
- Subject: “Welcome to Zerodha” or “Zerodha registration complete” or similar.
- From: support@zerodha.com or accounts@zerodha.com .
The client ID is prominently displayed in the email.
Option 2: SMS history
Zerodha sends SMS notifications using your client ID as the reference. Search your SMS app for:
- “Zerodha” or “ZERODHA”.
- Order confirmations show “Trade confirmation for [Client ID]”.
The 6-character ID is in many of these messages.
Option 3: Console (logged in)
If you have an active Console session:
- Console > Profile.
- Client ID is displayed at the top.
Option 4: Kite (logged in)
If you have an active Kite session:
- Kite > Profile icon (top right).
- Settings > Account.
- Client ID shown.
Option 5: Forgot User ID on login page
- Visit kite.zerodha.com.
- Click “Forgot user ID?”.
- Enter your registered mobile number or email.
- Zerodha sends your client ID to that channel.
Option 6: Zerodha Support
If you can’t access any of the above:
- Call Zerodha customer care or submit a Console ticket from a friend’s account or via Zerodha’s public support form.
- Provide PAN and date of birth.
- Verify identity over phone or via OTP.
- Support reveals your client ID.
Format details
| Component | Detail |
|---|---|
| Length | 6 characters (typical) |
| Format | 2 alpha + 4 digits (most common) |
| Some legacy IDs | Different formats; longer or different mix |
| Case sensitivity | Not relevant (Zerodha accepts upper or lower) |
The 6-character format dates to Zerodha’s early years; it’s persisted.
Why might you forget
- Long-dormant account reactivated after years.
- Multiple accounts (family members) where IDs are similar.
- Email-based recall difficulty (you remember it’s “AB” something but not the digits).
A small notebook or password manager entry resolves this for future.
