Interest payment schedule for G-Secs

G-Secs pay coupon semi-annually, on fixed dates derived from the original issue date.

Schedule

  • Two coupon payment dates per year.
  • 6 months apart.
  • Payment via direct credit to your linked bank.

Example: 7.18 GS 2033 might have coupon dates of 14 August and 14 February each year (semi-annual).

How to find the schedule

  • Console > Holdings > G-Sec details: Next coupon date.
  • ISIN documentation (RBI / NSE).
  • Zerodha bond details page per ISIN.

What you receive

Coupon per period = (Coupon rate x Face value) / 2

Example: 7% G-Sec, Rs 1,00,000 face value:

  • Per semi-annual payment: 7% x 1,00,000 / 2 = Rs 3,500.

Tax

Coupon income is taxed at slab rate as “income from other sources”. TDS not deducted on G-Sec coupons. Report annually in ITR.
