Margin penalty entries in the Zerodha Console ledger record any SEBI shortfall penalty charged on your account. The entries are typically tagged “Margin shortfall penalty” with the date and amount.

What the entry shows

  • Date: The day the shortfall arose.
  • Amount: Penalty per SEBI’s framework (0.5% to 5% of shortfall depending on size).
  • Reference: Specific trade / segment that caused the shortfall.

How to verify

  1. Console > Reports > Ledger.
  2. Filter by “Penalty” or “Margin shortfall”.
  3. Match with the Margin shortfall penalty notice SMS / email received.
  4. Cross-reference with the position and the specific shortfall event.

If you dispute

If you believe the penalty is incorrect:

  1. Submit a Console ticket.
