The Indian mutual fund industry employs approximately 50,000 to 60,000 people directly across AMCs, RTAs, distributors, and ecosystem firms, plus a much larger ARN-holder distributor network (~3 lakh active ARN holders). This includes fund managers, sales / distribution staff, compliance, operations, technology, and customer service roles.

Fund manager track

  • Requires CFA, MBA Finance, or equivalent credentials.

Sales / distribution track

  • ARN-holder model also.

Operations track

  • Compliance and audit specialisations.

Technology track

  • AMCs and platforms competing for digital talent.

  • Banking sector: ~15 lakh employees.
  • Insurance: ~7 lakh.
  • Mutual funds: ~60,000 (direct) + 3 lakh distributors.

The mutual fund industry is smaller than banking / insurance but growing rapidly with industry AUM growth.
