Redesigned marketwatch on Kite web
The redesigned marketwatch on Kite web is the current default left-hand panel layout that replaced the legacy compact-list design. The redesign expanded the per-watchlist instrument cap to 250 (from the previous lower limit), added inline action icons, refreshed the search behaviour, and overhauled the row layout.
What changed in the redesign
| Aspect | Legacy layout | Redesigned layout |
|---|---|---|
| Instruments per watchlist | Lower (cap varied by build) | 250 per watchlist |
| Action icons | Hover-revealed at row edge | Hover-revealed; richer set (Notes, Pin, Alert, GTT) |
| Search bar | Static input | Auto-complete with segment tags and exchange differentiation |
| Tab management | 5 tabs, basic create / rename | 5 tabs, drag-reorder, inline rename |
| Depth panel | Click row to open | Click row to open; richer depth view |
| Density toggle | Not available | Compact / expanded toggle |
| Briefcase / event tag indicators | Not on every row | Visible on every relevant row |
250-instrument capacity
The redesign raised the per-watchlist cap to 250 instruments on Kite web. The Kite mobile app staged the same change; users on older app builds may still see a 50-instrument cap until they update the app .
Across all five watchlist tabs, the theoretical maximum is 1,250 instruments on web. In practice, most retail users sit well under 200 total.
Density toggle
The new layout offers two row densities:
- Compact: Scrip name, exchange tag, LTP, change percentage. Best when monitoring many rows.
- Expanded: All compact data plus volume, day high / low, and previous close. Best for fewer rows with deeper detail.
The toggle is in the watchlist options menu (gear icon at the top right of the panel).
Action icons on the row
On hover, every row now exposes a consistent set of action icons:
- Buy (B), Sell (S): Open the order ticket.
- Chart: Open the TradingView or ChartIQ chart for the scrip.
- Market depth: Open the depth panel.
- Alerts: Set a price or condition alert .
- GTT: Create a GTT order .
- Notes: Attach a short note to the row.
- Pin: Pin the row to the top of the watchlist.
- Remove (x): Remove the scrip from the watchlist.
This is the same icon set as the Kite app , bringing parity across surfaces.
Search refresh
The redesigned search field shows results live as you type. Each result row carries:
- Symbol and full company name.
- Exchange tag (NSE, BSE, NFO, CDS, MCX).
- LTP at search time.
- Segment indicator (EQ, FUT, OPT, INDICES, ETF, IPO).
This makes brand search and instrument disambiguation much easier than in the legacy search.
Overview strip
A new overview strip at the top of the panel shows the Nifty 50 (default), with toggle for Sensex / BankNifty / FinNifty. This is separate from the user’s watchlists and cannot be removed.
If the overview keeps resetting to Nifty after you switch it, see How to fix Pinned overview resets to Nifty .
Migration from legacy
Users coming from the legacy layout retain all their watchlists, tab names, and instruments. The migration is server-side; no manual export / import is needed. Existing notes and pins also persist.
