Zerodha Settlement Holiday

Settlement holiday impact on trades

From WebNotes, a public knowledge base. Last updated . Reading time ~2 min.

When an exchange holiday falls during the T+1 settlement period, settlement is delayed to the next working day. A trade on Friday with Monday holiday settles Tuesday instead of Monday.

Friday (no Monday holiday)Monday (T+1)Tuesday morning
Friday (Monday holiday)Tuesday (T+2 calendar, T+1 working)Wednesday morning

Impact

For sellers:

  • Proceeds available one trading day later.
  • Cash flow planning needs to account for holidays.

For buyers:

  • Shares credit one trading day later.
  • T1 holding status extends by holiday duration.

On Zerodha

Console shows the expected settlement date for each trade. Verify on the Tradebook report.

Implications for active trading

  • Plan T+1 cash availability around holidays.
  • For multi-day strategies, factor in extra settlement days.
  • F&O daily MTM still settles same evening; equity is the affected segment.
