Shriram Mutual Fund is an Indian asset management company sponsored by the Shriram Group, the diversified financial services conglomerate with deep distribution presence in Tier II and Tier III India through Shriram Finance, Shriram Insurance, and other group entities. The AMC operates under Shriram Asset Management Company Limited and SEBI registration under the SEBI (Mutual Funds) Regulations 1996 framework.

The Shriram Group has been one of India’s most-recognised financial services brands since the 1970s, building its reputation through commercial vehicle financing and a deep semi-urban / rural customer base. Shriram Mutual Fund leverages this distribution legacy to reach mutual fund investors in geographies less served by the bank-sponsored AMC majors. The AMC’s AUM is approximately Rs 3,000-5,000 crore as of 2025, placing it in the small-tier of the 44 SEBI-registered Indian AMCs.

The Shriram Group is one of India’s largest non-banking financial services groups, founded in 1974 by R. Thyagarajan. The group’s principal businesses include:

  • Shriram Finance (formerly Shriram Transport Finance and Shriram City Union Finance, merged): commercial vehicle financing, MSME lending.
  • Shriram General Insurance and Shriram Life Insurance.
  • Shriram Wealth: wealth management and broking.
  • Shriram Asset Management (the mutual fund AMC).

The group’s deep distribution presence in Tier II and Tier III India, particularly in southern states, provides the mutual fund AMC with a distinctive customer-acquisition channel.

Place in the Indian mutual fund industry

Shriram Mutual Fund is part of the long tail of smaller Indian AMCs that maintain operational continuity through the Shriram Group’s broader balance sheet. The AMC’s competitive position depends on:

  • The Shriram brand recognition in target markets.
  • The continued availability of the parent group’s distribution channels.
  • The performance of the scheme line-up relative to peer AMCs in the small-tier segment.

The AMC’s growth has been measured rather than aggressive, consistent with the Shriram Group’s broader operational style of long-term franchise building.
