Order rejection
Exchange mass cancel reason
When Kite shows “exchange mass cancel” as an order rejection reason, the exchange has cancelled multiple orders due to specific operational or market conditions.
Common triggers
- Pre-open session matching: Some pre-open orders may be cancelled if they’re outside the indicative price range.
- Circuit breaker activation: Index-level circuit halts can cancel pending orders.
- System maintenance window: Planned exchange downtime cancels open orders.
- Trading halt: Specific scrip suspended; pending orders on it are cancelled.
- Operational issues at the exchange: Rare; may cancel a batch of orders for risk management.
What happens
When mass cancel applies:
- Affected orders show “cancelled” status in Orders tab.
- Reason field shows “exchange mass cancel” or similar.
- No execution occurs.
- Margin / funds reserved for the order are released.
Action
For an affected user:
- Check Orders tab for cancellation reason.
- If you still want the position, place a new order.
- Verify pricing / market conditions before resubmitting.
When this is common
- Pre-open session end (some orders cancel as indicative match concludes).
- Market-wide circuit triggers (rare but happen on high-volatility days).
- Maintenance windows (typically announced in advance).
- System outages (very rare).
